SOUTHERN QUEENSLAND

Southern Queensland is home to world famous beaches, vibrant cosmopolitan cities and an array of unique natural wonders and experiences.

Brisbane is Queensland’s capital city and the main gateway to this diverse region. It is a buzzing city with a serious relaxed and chilled-out feel to it, where kayaking down the Brisbane River, climbing the city’s Story Bridge and abseiling down the Kangaroo Point Cliffs are all part of a day’s activities. Visit the world’s largest koala sanctuary or venture over to Moreton Island to hand feed the wild dolphins and toboggan down the world’s tallest sand dunes.

Head south to the Gold Coast where you can glitz it up like a real celebrity and stay in exclusive accommodation (including the Palazzo Versace Hotel where the celebs are staying when not in the ‘jungle’), or enjoy great shopping and fantastic wining and dining. For fun and adrenalin, visit the theme parks, thrill rides and a vibrant nightlife, which all exist along a magnificent coastline of wide golden beaches and clear blue waves. But away from the buzz and energy of the coast you can soon find yourself in crystal clear rock pools, exploring ‘the jungle’ in world’s largest sub-tropical rainforest and hand-feeding colourful birds. Or, why not head west and sample wines at boutique vineyards. There’s such a diverse array of experiences to be had!

Venture north to the Sunshine Coast and Fraser Island and you’ll discover a stunning surf coastline, boutique beach resorts and quaint hinterland villages. Drive down a ‘highway’ made of sand on the world’s largest sand island, Fraser Island where you can drive along the beach or through rainforest in a 4WD, swim in crystal clear lakes and creeks, go bushwalking, birdwatching and spot a host of nature and wildlife.

A great way to experience the best of Southern Queensland and link all these amazing experiences together is through a new touring route called the Great Sunshine Way. With so much to see and do within the Southern Queensland region, you’ll be sure to need ample time to experience it all, and whether your journey style is car, rail or motorhome, the Great Sunshine Way is one of the best ways to take it all in – check out www.experiencequeensland.com for more details.
